Local man Paul Gittins, who defeated the Leader of the Borough Council in the local elections is to stand for Parliament.

Accompanied by his agent, Bill Blenkinsopp, he handed in his nomination papers this week confident he will capture the popular vote.

“I was delighted to win seats on the Borough and Town Council at my first attempt and the support I received has given me the confidence to fight this By Election as an Independent” said Paul. Paul (45) is very well known in the town as a former shopkeeper, popular D.J. and now a J.P. He told Newton News he always had an interest in national politics, but didn’t realise until recently that he could be heavily involved as M.P. for Sedgefield.

“And the constituency deserves an M.P. who wants to serve the people he represents. For too long we have suffered from an absent M.P. and it is time for a radical change said Paul “I have a down to earth approach to politics and I just want to work for the benefit of the area I live in tackling problems like the Town Centre, anti-social behaviour and bringing new investors to the Borough.

He is supported by all the successful Independents in the area who want to see Labour’s stranglehold broken. Because of the short period for canvassing Paul will be represented by them calling on voters for their support.

Paul is anxious that young people and others who have not used their vote before will turn out on 19th July.

“Please take your voter’s card to the Polling Station and you will see how easy it is to bring about change in the town you live by casting your vote for me” said Paul.
